  • Determination: Random roll or by circumstance
  • Charisma Reaction Modifier: Applies to intelligent creatures when the party can communicate or converse with them.

  • (Optional) Add additional modifiers: Other modifiers (+/- 5% to 40%) may apply based on racial preferences, alignment differences, and the recent behavior of the party toward the encountered NPC or monster.1

Use of loyalty modifiers: DMG, 63 states ” Reaction is determined by rolling percentile dice, adjusting the score for charisma and applicable loyalty adjustment as if the creature were a henchman of the character speaking.” The loyalty adjustments appear on DMG, 36-37. But consulting these tables will delay gameplay with little value. Modest discretionary modifiers based on circumstances are preferable.
